Emotional abuse is not considered as serious as physical or sexual abuse. But it is. The thoughts and poetry contained here were written by a 13 year old girl after having endured years of emotional abuse by her mother.

The following words and poetry were written by Kallel Hunter. She has graciously allowed me to share them with you.

We do not clearly understand why some mothers abandon their babies, but feelings of denial and economic issues are thought to play a large part in the problem. The senseless deaths that occur when babies are abandoned need never happen. Alternatives are available for mothers who find themselves pregnant and unable to care for a child. If you know someone who is pregnant and may need help, there are ways that you can help.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but bullying and name-calling can emotionally scar me forever. Not the original ending to the classic verse, but probably the more accurate one. It seems that broken bones will heal far more quickly than a battered soul. Does this sound overly dramatic?

It was in a high school literature class that I was first introduced to the Oedipus Complex, defined as “a boy’s unresolved desire for sexual gratification through the parent of the opposite sex, especially the desire of a son for his mother”. It was in a college film class that I was shown a famous French film entitled “Murmur of the Heart” which took the Oedipal theme and played it out in a contemporary middle class setting. In this film, the sensitive youngest son

 Definition of Child Sexual Abuse

Child sexual abuse is any form of sexual activity with a child by an adult, or by another child where there is no consent or consent is not possible; or by another child who has power over the child. By this definition, it is possible for a child to be sexually abused by another child who is younger than they are.

Sexual abuse includes, but is not limited to, showing a child pornographic materials, placing the child's hand on another person's genitals, touching a child's genitals, and/or penetration of any orifice of a child's body (mouth, vagina, anus) with a penis, finger, or an object of any sort. Penetration does not have to occur for it to be sexual abuse.

There are many commonly held beliefs about sexual abuse. One is that those committing sexual abuse are always men. In fact, reports of female perpetrators are on the rise, involving both male and female victims.

Child Maltreatment: Definitions
Any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver (e.g., clergy, coach, teacher) that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child.

Child maltreatment includes all types of abuse and neglect of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caregiver, or another person in a custodial role (e.g., clergy, coach, teacher). There are four common Types ofabuse.

Having had a personal opportunity to speak with Ms. Liles after all this time, she shared `Florida's Child' - Bradley McGee's life story with C. Bailey-Lloyd. In her heartfelt words, she explained how she still advocates child abuse prevention, and still follows the case of Sheryl Coe, Bradley's biological mother. Today, we revisit Bradley's brief time on earth.

This is an ever-changing world and there are many things in it that we would like to protect our children from. The last thing any parent wants to see is their child violated, hurt or in pain.

As parents, we do our best to provide our children with safety equipment, expose them to lessons that will give them the tools to protect themselves and be there for them when they need us. Unfortunately, we cannot be with our children 24-7, especially as they grow and venture into the world towards independence.
