General Job Description: Members of Community Outreach and Events Team work with a variety of community organizations, schools, churches, and fundraising events to raise awareness in the community about The Blue Ribbon Project. The primary focus is attending events held by other organizations. This could be things such as speaking to a school class about Backpacks of Love, setting up and tending a booth at a community event, managing a table or booth at a Blue Ribbon Project fundraising event, as well as similar tasks. The Team Member speaks in front of groups, classes, and answers questions about The Blue Ribbon Project and programs that are offered.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.):
• Visit schools who request that a representative from The Blue Ribbon Project come to speak to a particular class or in-school organization. This includes such things as class projects and Community Service Learning Projects. • Visit churches that request a representative from The Blue Ribbon Project come to speak to a congregation or group within the church
• Visit and participate in other community based activities and functions during “external” events that are held by various organizations and community groups.
• Handle telephone, written, and e-mail inquiries for information regarding Community Outreach and answer questions about all programs offered by The Blue Ribbon Project
• Build relationships with community groups through service and follow up communications that result in positive interactions and to ensure their continued participation with The Blue Ribbon Project.
• Be a “Public Face” for The Blue Ribbon Project and help build positive relationships with various community based organizations.
• Attend and manage a variety of fundraising events where a Blue Ribbon Project display will be done.
Education and Experience
• Possess at least a high school diploma
• Should have some job-related experience, such as working non-profits, leading teams and/or organizations.
• Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage.
• Organization and planning skills.
• Strong Public Speaking and Presentation Skills.
• Have a FULL understanding of each program offered by The Blue Ribbon Project and be ready to answer questions about the organization.
• Have a STRONG passion for our mission in prevention and education regarding child abuse and child sex offenses.
• Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations or when discussing abuse
• Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
• Willingness to sometimes adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
• Pass a full background check
• Hours are flexible
• Available for special events and training
Each member brings a unique knowledge and skills which complement the mission of The Blue Ribbon Project and help move the organization forward. Leadership Team members need not have direct knowledge or experience with Child Abuse but can bring personal and professional experience and skills to the forefront and be part of a great team. Members should have a passion to helping abused and neglected children and working with the community.
Due to the sensitive nature of our organization and those we serve, Leadership Team members should be able to pass a background check and participate in an interview process with members of The Blue Ribbon Project Leadership Team.
